SHORE OF ARGENTINE LAKE  <  X
4x4 Cerro Frias
4X4 EXCURSION… SHORE OF ARGENTINE LAKE

Visiting this vast territory and challenging nature obstacles to get to extraordinary, almost unexplored, panoramic viewpoints.
Due to the enormous diversity of landskapes and attractions that patagonia offers, such as its irregular and cliff-lined coasts, the endless steppe rich in fossils, fauna and flora, and the setting of the andes mountain range and the argentine lake, it becomes a one-of-a-kind scenario for 4x4 adventures.
Going through barely accessible roads or venturing into places with no existing marked path: this is our proposal. It is an alternative for achieving full contact with nature, respecting and protecting the environment visited.

TOUR:

On land rover defender 4x4, we leave from el calafate, only 5 km of pavement and pass through a gate to enter to ranch fields, heading to the coast of the argentine lake. We will circulate through gravel roads, sometimes covered by snow, of the typical patagonian stepp, full of thatch, shrub and calafate bushes. We pass by frozen lagoons and wade the centinela river. We go up the highest plateau of the region, getting to a 300-metre-a.s.l.-panoramic viewpoint of the cliff that falls abruptly to the lake, apart from having views to archaeological sites.
We descend the plateau driving through sandbanks, dunes and beaches.
Once we get to a sheltered place by the centinela river, protected and surrounded by shrubs and calafate bushes, a warm outdoor meal, lunch or afternoon snack, will be waiting for us (recreating somehow what the ancient travelers did when carrying wool in the region of el calafate: they took this protected area as their stage, by the river and surrounded by calafate bushes).
After finishing the picnic by the fire, we start our way back through a different road that leads to the route in front of the mount “comisión”. From this point, we have 10 km of pavement back to el calafate.
